So I have this Stash of Blue Yarns…

Which has lead me to free form a small wall installation:

Tallest piece is 29″ x 5″ (74cm x 13cm)

Medium-sized piece is 4″ x 8″ (10cm x 20cm)

Square Piece is 11″ x 11″ (28cm x 28cm)

Smallest piece is 2″ x 6.5″ (5cm x 17cm)

Materials: Various fun yarns, specially dyed yarns from other projects, ghost netting, plastic wrap, hooking fabric

Created using a Locker Hook and utilizing rug hooking techniques, I’ve only consumed about half of the blue yarn stash. Brighten a small corner of your home with the beautiful ocean blue yarns in this small wall art installation.

My work in Mori at The Hub – Honolulu Biennial

In partnership with the Honolulu Biennial Foundation, Mori has a great little curated pop-up shop of local artists at The Hub. Thanks to Aly, I am one of the selected local creatives with work available for sale in the shop! Several sizes and colors of my wire crocheted drops are available to add sparkle to your home, workspace, or garden.

“Honolulu Sunrise” is a unique color way I created exclusively for the event:

Each piece in the Mori pop-up has been exclusively tagged with “StudioDeanna HB2017” which will only be available until May 8, 2017 when the Honolulu Biennial ends.

Check out the cutest ever handmade ceramic sea turtles! My friend @heybeachcake Mariko Marritt adds such great personality to each charm she creates. This sleepy little Honu is finished off with details using 22k gold and floating on a wire crocheted drop of Deep Turquoise powder coating. I’m happy to partner with her on selected crochet drops which are also available at Mori at The Hub.

My Pet Moss in the Hawaii Craftsmen Annual Statewide Juried Exhibition

This is my second year being juried into Hawaii Craftsmen Annual Statewide Juried Exhibition. This, it’s 49th year, was juried by Cindi Strauss of The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Thank You, Cindi!

My Pet Moss Fiber 12″ x 12″ x 2″

I had such fun putting together the piece, My Pet Moss. Having a great quantity and variety of green yarns from my various projects I have found rug hooking to be a great way to combine it and use it up.

A relaxing break for my hands from the strength needed to complete the wire crochet pieces, this super tactile piece that draws one in to touch it, to pet it; such lovely green moss.

It is designed to either hang on the wall or to lay flat on a table.

Interviewed!!

Thank You ever so much to Kathryn Vercillo of Crochet Concupiscence for the wonderful interview. She has done a lot to forward information about the amazing work of crochet artists and the health benefits of this hand-craft hobby.

An “Excerpt from Interview with Crochet Artist Deanna Gabiga” is available on her website but I highly recommend checking out the latest copy Happily Hooked for all the juicy details. I divulge a few secret tips & techniques I use to complete my designs in larger gauge wire only for Happily Hooked readers.

I greatly appreciated her thoughtful questions, she had definitely done her homework ahead of time as they were highly specific to my situation.

Her latest book, “Hook to Heal!,” is available through Amazon.com

Wire Crochet Water Drop & Photography

Perfected the crochet pattern in this Water Drop created from 22 gauge wire on a Japanese 3/0 hook. Pulled out my jewelry tools and created a hand-stamped signature tag, too.

Continuing to explore new dimensions in metals, I’ve been working with macro photography and printing the results on aluminum. Sapphire Magic Loop shows just one way in which I start the wire crocheted sculptures.

Love the look I am finding with the Black & White options. The clean, minimalist visuals show an order in otherwise complicated stitches. Tracks Noir, below, is 24″ x 30″

The next photograph, Wire Noir, is one of my favorites. It clearly shows the coils not normally seen in the yarn version of the bullion stitch. 40″ x 30″
